To the Membership:
It is with almost overwhelming sadness that I write to inform you of the passing of our dearly beloved President, J.R. Michell yesterday. He was diagnosed last Fall with pancreatic cancer. He nonetheless bravely conducted the Annual General Meeting, rising to the occasion as he honored his old late friend, Bobby Akin with the Club’s highest honor, the Koshland Award.
J.R. was a constant presence in the paddocks of our event venues and it would be difficult to think of a more highly regarded individual in our little world. He was an exceedingly gifted mechanic, driver and Club leader and above all, a great friend. He leaves a gaping hole in our hearts, the entire GMT Racing community, his wife, Eileen, sons, Josh, AJ, Rob and daughter, Anna spouses and grandchildren, Sammy, Amina and Tess with a baby boy on the way.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
